The AICPA Competency Self-Assessment Tool

The AICPA Competency Self-Assessment Tool (CAT) provides current and future CPAs with a basis for self-assessment and career planning. CAT supports learning development that addresses the competencies—knowledge, skills, and abilities—important to CPAs in alignment with the core values and competencies expressed in the CPA Vision.

CAT has been designed to assist the CPA in creating a personalized learning and development plan. In doing so, it supports a meaningful and relevant continuing professional education (CPE) process for all CPAs.

Here are some of the ways that this tool can benefit CPAs who choose to use it:

·         Helps CPAs evaluate their proficiency level in these competencies for current or future positions

·         Allows CPAs to target specific competencies for their development

·         Suggests a variety of learning activities to develop the selected competencies
