The National Accreditation Commission (NAC) is a senior AICPA committee made of up eight members from all segments of the profession formed to provide a means for formally identifying, recognizing, advocating, and supporting new areas of specialization that warrant an accreditation program. Using a formal "screening process," the NAC will first consider new or emerging services, and secondarily, existing specialties where there is no dominant provider or a significant competitive threat. Also, accreditation will be considered only where the potential market is large, economic benefit to CPAs is clear and timing can outpace any competition. The NAC will emphasize areas that will increase practice development opportunities to CPAs in public practice and advance the careers of CPAs employed in business and industry, education, government and other areas.
The NAC is also working with the ABV Committee; Information Technology Executive Committee and the CITP Credential Committee; and the PFP Executive and PFS Credential Committees in considering ways to increase participation in the ABV, CITP and PFS credential programs.
